Can I rent a car if I don't have a credit card?

The credit card is an indispensable requirement to rent cars at Europcar Costa Rica. However, you can rent by presenting the credit card of a family member or friend as a guarantee. In order to avoid possible fraud, the credit card holder must be present at the time of signing the rental agreement.

In the event that you use a third-party credit card, the holder must be present at the time of opening the rental agreement to accept the blocking of the amount corresponding to the warranty for the vehicle.

How can I pay the booking for the rental of a car?

The forms of payment at Europcar Costa Rica are the following:

• Debit card: you can use a debit card to pay for the reservation online, however, when you pick up the car you will be asked for a credit card to make the withholdings corresponding to the guarantee.
• Credit card: It is recommended to use the same credit card to pay the rent as for the guarantee / franchise. Consider that, in order to avoid possible fraud, the credit card holder must be present at the time the contract is created when collecting the rental car.

NOTE: The credit card must be issued by a banking institution. Departmental credit cards are not accepted. They must be personalized, with the name of the owner in relief and have at least one year of being issued. Corporate cards must also have these features.

What is the minimum and maximum age to rent a car with Europcar Costa Rica?

• The minimum age to rent a car with Europcar Costa Rica is 18 years, however, drivers under 25 are still considered new drivers, so it is required to purchase a lower driver coverage.
• The maximum age to rent a car in Costa Rica is 69 years.

How many additional drivers can I hire when renting a car in Europcar Costa Rica?

The maximum number of additional drivers that can be hired when renting with Europcar Costa Rica is 3. Each additional driver has a cost of $5.00 USD plus tax per day.

How to add baby seats in car rental in Costa Rica?

Because sometimes baby seats are returned in poor condition for rent, these extras are subject to availability at the branch where it has been reserved.

• The cost for the Baby Seat is $3.00 USD plus tax per day.

Can I drive the rental car outside the Republic of Costa Rica?

At the moment it is not possible to use the rental car outside the Republic of Costa Rica.

How to know if my credit card guarantees have already been released?

The rental contract cannot be closed without first releasing the guarantees retained on the customer's credit card, so the guarantees are unlocked at the time of returning the car and finalizing the rental contract. However, in some banking institutions the release is reflected until even after 30 days.

At the rental office you will be given a cancellation voucher with which you can check with your bank the release of the amount for the guarantee. How can I use my credit card insurance?

All reservations made through Europcar Costa Rica already have the necessary insurance to rent cars in Costa Rica, so it would not be necessary to use your credit card.

What are the additional charges when renting a car?

Europcar Costa Rica offers final rates without hidden charges, so when picking up the rental car you will not be charged for any additional fees except for those that you have requested.

However, sometimes there may be additional charges for the following concepts:

• Key replacement
• Repair of flat tire
• Crane
• Transit taxes
• Rental extension
